This matchup pits last year’s champion in Mystery Island against the scruffy Virtupets squad. Through two games, they’ve gotten off to a rollicking start, winning against Krawk Island in all but Shootout Showdown and a complete sweep against Faerieland. For the first time in a while, it seems they want to be legit. But let’s see how this match-up goes.
YOOYUBALL MATCH: 8:00 p.m.
Goaltron Mk I was not properly oiled before the match started, I’ve heard, so their performance will be a little… shall we say, rusty.
The game got off to a good enough start. Volgoth dunked one in for the first goal, but then a Darigan Yooyu confounded both teams. Weldar Xupenfarb and Teylor Nix battled for passes and potential goals, but it was the latter who ultimately got one past the Goaltron on an exepected diagonal. The kindly Vandagyre beside me wasn’t expecting the goal… but he was mostly jealous of other Neopet species competing in the event.
The game has been stopped due to complaints of evil laughter in the stands. Also, someone found a Speckled Xweetok Plushie inside a bathroom, which is strange, since that species and colour combination isn’t mass produced in Neopia. They heard a ticking noise coming from it, and after a few seconds, it poofed into smoke. The two incidents appear to be unrelated, but some people have their doubts. Also, I got a message from Natascha, who begged me to sample the lavender ice cream from a stall near the stadium. I flippantly denied her request because I didn’t know what this assignment was about and I wanted to stay on the line… so what a shame.
For the second half, many Fire Yooyus are popping up, and Mystery Island is taking of them to get around the scoring defecit. Selmon Woulf had a major sneezing attack while on the court but still managed two more goals. It would have been nice to know about his allergy to Juppies in advance, but at least it let this reporter get a good scoop. I swear, if I don’t get paid extra for this by the publishing company, that’ll be fucking awful.
AFTERMATH: 8:27 p.m.
The final score was 11-1, Mystery Island. Since the end of that game, I’ve also attended a few demonstrations for Make Some Noise, and they were quite rowdy. At one, the performers expressed their concerns with Trevor Rabin having played the Israeli national anthem at a recent concert… and I have no idea what any of that means. But regardless, a good time was had by all.
This is Desmond, signing off for the AGD Free Press. I hope you enjoyed reading about this brief break from reaity as much as I did reporting on it.
